Mr. Talanca is currently in his ninth year of teaching and sixth year at Marcus High School. His responsibilities include the direction of the Symphonic Band as well as the co-direction of the Varsity Band. Mr. Talanca also teaches the beginning clarinet class at Lamar Middle School. Prior to his appointment at Marcus High School, Mr. Talanca was the associate director of bands at Durham Middle School in Lewisville, Texas. Mr. Talanca attended the University of North Texas where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree. While at North Texas, he studied saxophone with Dr. Eric Nestler and Mr. Jim Riggs and performed in the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony, conducted by Mr. Dennis Fisher and Mr. Eugene Migliaro Corporon, respectively. This summer marked the eleventh year that Mr. Talanca has taken part in the North Texas Conducting Collegium as a member of the Wind Symphony. This workshop culminates in a recording session for the GIA Teaching Music Through Performance in Band project. To date, Mr. Talanca has participated in the recording and preservation of nearly 450 significant pieces in the band repertoire on the Mark Custom, Klavier, and GIA recording labels. In addition to his work with the North Texas Wind Symphony, Mr. Talanca also has the privilege to perform on occasion with the Lonestar Wind Orchestra. Mr. Talanca has been an active private saxophone instructor and masterclass clinician. His private students have achieved success at the district, region, and state levels.
