
David Simon is currently in his sixth year of teaching and his sixth year at Marcus High School. His responsibilities include direction of the Concert Band and assisting with the Varsity Band. Under his direction the Concert Band has consistently been recognized with superior division ratings at the University Interscholastic League’s Concert and Sightreading contest. Mr. Simon also teaches the beginning horn class at Briarhill Middle School.
Mr. Simon attended Baylor University, in Waco, TX, receiving his bachelor's degree in Music Education. A horn player, he performed with various ensembles while at Baylor, including the Baylor Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and several chamber ensembles. He is originally from Austin, TX, where he graduated from Leander High School and was a proud member and Drum Major of the Leander Band program. Mr. Simon was a four-year member of the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, and served as its conductor for two of those seasons. As conductor, he was awarded the Jim Jones Leadership Award for outstanding Drum Major in Drum Corps International in 2003. He has also been active as a private instructor, conducting and leadership clinician, and marching band technician for several years prior to serving at Marcus.
Mr. Simon attributes his professional development and personal growth to several influential people in his life, including his mother and father, Kelly and Barry, his brother and sister, Matt and Stephanie, Amanda Drinkwater, Tom Bennett, Gene Monterastelli, Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, Peter Ferrito, Alan Hanna, Keith Witt, Dr. Kevin Sedatole, Dominic Talanca, Kennan Wylie, Jeffrey Powers, and Michael Klesch.
